Slide the yoyo across a rail or string.

Bring the spinning yoyo close to a straight edge or taut string (e.g., your arm, a railing, or another string segment).
Carefully place the rim of the yoyo onto the edge or string.
Allow the yoyo to 'grind' or slide across the surface while spinning.
Maintain balance and control the movement along the rail.
To return, gently lift the yoyo off the rail and bind.
